History
Composed in 1891, the Arabesque is an early piano work by Claude Debussy, written during a formative period when he was gradually moving away from late Romantic aesthetics. While traces of Chopin and French salon style remain, the piece already reveals Debussy’s interest in fluid harmony and atmospheric color, foreshadowing his later impressionistic language.

The piece follows a ternary (ABA) form, with a flowing opening theme, a contrasting middle section, and a refined return of the initial material.
